Student’s in the trades, this information will assist you in your employment quest as a first-year trade apprentice.

The biggest hurdle students have after choosing a career is finding employment. More specifically, with trades apprenticeship, finding a willing employer sponsor for their first year of apprenticeship is a challenge.  Many employers are reluctant to hire apprentices due to costs which makes finding a willing employer a difficult and the slow one.

There is funding available to the employer if a student is hired.  The Federal government funded program takes away many of employer excuses by providing financial incentives to offset the cost of training.  Students aware of this program can not only sell themselves but show the enhanced return on the company’s investment.

This program is provided by the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC), funded by the Government of Canada, covering 22 federally recognized construction and manufacturing trades.

The time to apply has arrived!

Shad programs give Grade 10 and 11 students a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to grow their mindset, collaborate in a university classroom with youth across the country (and internationally!!), and build community change maker capabilities using #STEAM4Good to make an impact!

Two program options, one amazing experience:

Why Shad and why now?

Spend the month of July exploring the world of STEAM and entrepreneurship through exciting lectures, experiential workshops, team-building activities, and a design project that inspires students to tackle real-world problems

Post-secondary Pathways

Students will explore campus life with opportunities to learn from university professors and high-profile keynote speakers from the STEAM and business sectors, and knowledge sharing from members of local Indigenous communities

Community

Participants will build lasting relationships with like-minded peers from communities across Canada, and join the Shad alumni network comprised of over 20,000+ alumni
