Audible – TEACHERS ONLY – Instructions on how to log in available in the library.

You can often find free internet resources for older novels and short stories where copyright has been obtained or where teachers have recorded themselves reading for classes.  One good site is BITS where there are two choices of listening speeds – check it out!

Epic is another site with audio options.  Much is focused on younger readers but there are some applicable to older students.

Storynory is more elementary focused but lots of interesting stories

Our local library also offers audiobook lending online, as well as having a branch just down the road from our school in Mill Bay Centre.

Polar Expressions Publishing has poetry and short story contests – check out the deadlines on their website

Check out the Vancouver Writers Fest which happens in October each year.

Contestants are challenged to submit a video, poster, essay and/or poem on the theme of Canadian Remembrance. Please see the link for rules for each category. Due dates are usually around November 15th each year and then we turn it in to the local Legion office.

The Victoria Festival of Authors (VFA) invites writers from Vancouver Island and beyond to share their works with our community of readers. The annual festival is a celebration of ideas to recharge imaginations. From politics to poetry, science to music, history to thrillers, they celebrate the richness of Canada’s literary community, and are passionate about providing a welcoming, respectful and comfortable environment for all.
