The Doreen Clayton Tribute Bursary
This bursary is created in memory of Doreen Clayton—a woman who would encourage you to learn by failing. In turn teaching you that the process is of the growth of the journey and not the finished result. She donated her time helping others, had a wicked awesome sense of humour, and always kept the door open at home no matter how much chaos or bad decisions followed you in. Her life was a quiet, steady example of empathy, sacrifice, and unconditional love.
Amount: $1069.69
Eligibility:
• Must be a graduating student of Frances Kelsey Secondary School
• Post-secondary education is not required—this award is about who you are, not where you’re headed.
This bursary isn’t about perfect grades or sparkling resumes. The recipient might’ve even skipped out on school a few times (we’re not checking attendance). What we’re looking for is heart.
To apply, submit a short essay (any length) on the theme of empathy—what it means to you, how you’ve experienced it, or why it matters in the world today.
Selection will be based on honesty, thoughtfulness, authenticity, and humour.
This award may go to someone who hasn’t always stood in the spotlight—someone who shows kindness, understanding, and the ability to connect with others. Sometimes, the underdog has the most important story to tell.
Due Date: May 2nd, 2025
